Level 2 MOT Tester 2023/24

The IMI Level 2 Award in MOT testing classes (4 &7)

The course runs from Monday to Friday and the course week is split into separate units consisting of:

Manage Own Professional Development as an MOT tester.

Carry Out a Statutory Periodic Roadworthiness test.

Working Relationships within the vehicle test centre.

Carry out pre-test checks for a Statutory Periodic Roadworthiness test.

Safe working practices in the vehicle test centre.

The final day is a practical MOT assessment and then an externally marked online exam that consists of 40 questions, open book (MOT testers guide available) with 75 minutes to complete.

Course Description

All MOT candidates must:-

• Have a current and full UK driving licence for the vehicle classes they want to test.
• Be a skilled mechanic with at least 4 years full-time employment in the service and repair of the vehicle types to be tested (Apprentices who have been employed for 4 years are eligible.) They must also have an ‘appropriate’ qualification (level 3).
• Have no unspent convictions for criminal offences connected with the MOT testing scheme or the motor trade, or involving acts of violence or intimidation and to become a nominated tester (NT) for class 4, 7 vehicles.
